A Couple of Days in Berlin

by | Dec 6, 2019 | Travel

I’ll be working for Forbes in the new year, officially starting on the 11th of February, 2020. I am really excited about the role, and what it will entail. In light of my new job, my soon to be new employer flew me out to Berlin for the Berlin 30 under 30 event and to meet the rest of the team.

Check Point Charlie

Managed to do a couple of 6.5k runs in Berlin and ran all the way to Checkpoint Charlie:

Fuhrerbunker

I also went to the ‘Fuhrerbunker Museum‘ where they converted what was a food storage bunker into a museum that had information inside about World War II and of Hitler’s demise.

They also had a replica of the room that Hitler would have been and where he finally shot himself. If you’re into history, then it is worth it. The tour itself is 2 hours long (the Hitler – How Could It Happen? tour), +1 hour if you want to go through the Berlin Story part of the bunker. You get earphones and an audio guide which tells you all about the history as you go through room by room discovering how the war first started to how it eventually ended.

Brandenburg Gate

Headed out and cycled all the way to the Brandenburg Gate by Uber Bike. I’d actually never used an Uber Bike before Berlin and actually was looking for them when I was in Switzerland the week after. I am actually a fan of the Uber bikes as they make hiring a bike really accessible, as you don’t need to return it at some shop somewhere and they were everywhere around the city.

Overall, it was a fun trip. I also went out clubbing with the folk at Forbes – though that probably deserves its own post.

Alas, it was a good trip to Berlin and I did enjoy it. It did remind me of London a little, though it’s definitely a lot more spacious and definitely a lot cheaper than London when it comes to things like public transport, food, and everything else.

I’d definitely recommend Berlin for a place to visit and I would love to visit again at some point in the future – with a much better planned itinerary.

Never live with a live in Landlord

Never live with a live in Landlord

I'm actually fuming at the moment. I love when I can write a post on here that comes from the heart and soul. So I live with a live in landlord or a resident landlord and it has been an utter nightmare to live in this place. I mean the house is nice, my room is nice...

Wandering Around London

Wandering Around London

Living in London can be amazing at times - especially if you live in Zone 1, where you can conveniently walk to locations that are full of joy and happiness. Today I went on a little wander around the city after having gone to the gym for around an hour and a half....

That's right! I've just submitted application for a student loan request to the Student Finance England website. Hopefully, it goes through and I receive it back as early as possible. Thinking about it now I probably should have applied for this a lot earlier in the...

Back to Studying Web Development?

Back to Studying Web Development?

In August, last year, I briefly touched upon the idea of wanting to go to university to study 'Web Technologies' at Birkbeck University of London. I've since not followed through on this and that is due to the fact that I've been busy at work and generally a little...

1st day in the new house

I have to say that I'm delighted at the fact that I've moved to Farringdon. I walked around the area for 3 hours yesterday, which in total led to around 8 miles of walking. Luckily my new running shoes are really, really comfortable. I'm even wearing them to work now...

Moving to Farringdon – Room Found

Moving to Farringdon – Room Found

Let's just say that I have been extremely stressed this month because I've been frantically looking for a place that is close enough to where I work. Now, I work on Tottenham Court Road and it's really expensive if you want to be within walking distance (up to an hour...

A Trip To SanYi, Miaoli (Taiwan)

March 5th, 2012 - I went to a place in Taiwan called SanYi in Miaoli County. According to Wikipedia it's a rural township located close to mountains. I went to SanYi to climb a beautiful mountain and destination. Along the way there were paddy fields and greenery...

New Smart Shoes for work

New Smart Shoes for work

I don't seem to be a very good picker of decent shoes. Any of the shoes that I do buy break or start wearing down considerably within a month. And it's not that I'm buying them cheap either. The last pair of shoes that I bought was on ASOS for £60. £60 for a pair of...

When’s the right time to find another job

When’s the right time to find another job

How do you know when the time’s right to move on and find something that you really find challenging? A colleague of mine very recently was accepted for a job at Twitter. It kind of opens your eyes as to what is available out there when someone doing the same job as...

A visit to London’s Olympic Park in Stratford

I recall seeing the Olympic stadium being built during early construction stages before leaving this country and I wanted to the see the games in person, but jetted off to the island of Taiwan where I then spent the next two years of my life studying and working....
