A Trip Away to Amsterdam

by | Dec 31, 2019 | Travel

In November I went away with my other half, Victoria Levine, to Amsterdam for the very first time. We stayed for about 4 days, and the trip was certainly an experience.

Central square in Amsterdam

Ever thought of setting up your own rubber duck shop?

This shop here in Amsterdam has already thought of that idea! They sell all types of rubber ducks ranging from Donald Trump, Boris Johnson to super heroes like superman (superduck), and spiderman (spiderduck):

Of course, if rubber ducks don’t tickle your fancy, then close by are all of the local attractions such as the red light district… and the red light district. OK, so I went around the red light district with my girlfriend, and it was definitely an interesting dynamic. I think we were more curious as to the poses that the ladies in the district would give you along with any sort of method of trying to attract your attention. It was definitely interesting. Also, no photos allowed in that area – otherwise, you’ll get a bollocking.

Amsterdam by night

Amsterdam looks pretty cool at night time. The wonky buildings along with the canals make for an interesting and cultured look.

Amsterdam by Canal

We also booked a 1 hour canal ride with some explanations of some of the buildings in Amsterdam along with some interesting facts – apparently around 13K – 15K bikes end up in the canal every year. And despite the look of the water, the water is actually very clean – as the captain of our boat had shown us by filling an empty bottle of water up with the water from the canal (it was crystal clear).

Amsterdam

Go to Omelegg for breakfast

On our last day we went to a place called Omelegg in Amsterdam – there are only two of these breakfast joints in the world – the other being located in Berlin (although I completely forgot when I went to Berlin 4 weeks ago).

Go to Cannibale Royale for dinner

This cannibal themed restaurant called Cannibale Royale in Amsterdam was the best. So good that we actually came to this place twice out of the 4 nights we stayed in Amsterdam. I ordered the ribs twice, so that’ll give you an idea of what I’d recommend – though the burgers also looked pretty good. There is also a mixed dish with the ribs and slices of meat you can have (beef, chicken and lamb).

I’d recommend this place if you want a delicious place to go to for food.

Overall, it was a good trip. We went to the Anne Frank museum which was worth the visit to see a bit of history, and Victoria wanted to go to this handbag museum so we went there too.

Finding a place to live in London

Finding a place to live in London

I've been looking at moving house and very recently found a place. But unfortunately the deal fell through as the landlord decided that they he would favour a member of his family in place of me. This is a small setback, but just means I'll have to live where I'm...

Work Is Tiring Me Out

Work Is Tiring Me Out

I seem to be constantly thinking about work and it's getting quite hectic at work as we've won new business. I'm likely not allowed to talk any further than this about work, but I'm certainly feeling the heat. I was reading this BBC article before about stress and it...

Yes!! I can present!

Yes!! I can present!

Public speaking has never been my strong suit, and it has always tormented me a little as I've always wanted to be good at it. A week ago my manager asked if I could present in front of 30 people that had recently joined the company and had gone on the graduate...

Took a day off work today

I've been infected somehow as I had to miss a day of work today. I've been a complete mess since Sunday. Friday evening was fine. Saturday... well, was also fine. Aside from the fact I fell down the stairs with a plate in my hand. I had to go out and buy a new plate....

Lloyds Bank just closed my Cash ISA and took all the money

Lloyds Bank just closed my Cash ISA and took all the money

I’m a little shocked actually. I logged onto internet banking to find that my Cash ISA with Lloyds Bank had become as if it were non-existent. It simply wasn’t there. The £2k that I had in that account was also missing. You can imagine my surprise when I opened up...

Dentists are insanely expensive in the UK

Dentists are insanely expensive in the UK

£53... My dentist appointment today cost me £53! That's crazy. It was for 3 x-rays that cost me £24 (£8 per x-ray) and a general upfront cost of £30. It's no wonder why us Brits have a bad reputation when it comes to our teeth. I also tried seeing if whether my...

What travelling into London was like today

What travelling into London was like today

The tube strike affected me dearly, and it will in the coming days as well. I'm actually dreading my journey back home - as I write this. It usually takes me half an hour to get into work from Stratford to Tottenham Court Road (Oxford Street), but today it took me two...

Opened up a Cash ISA and Credit Card Account

Opened up a Cash ISA and Credit Card Account

Yep, it's true. I've gone ahead and done it. I have opened myself to debt and a life of monetary despair. I'll now be poor forever paying back whatever credit I've borrowed from the bank using my delicious credit card. On the other hand, I've also opened up a Cash ISA...

Weight timeline from 16th of December to now

This post was meant to be all about my fitness and health; however, I've had to shift this towards a more distracting matter. It's to do with living in a house share. I have mentioned this issue in specifics in an article entitled "5 Reasons Why I Hate House Sharing"...

My Music Picks of the Week

My Music Picks of the Week

I work in an office and listening to music really stops you from going crazy. I'm thinking of doing a weekly blog post of my music picks for each week. I really need somewhere to manage it, whilst also benefiting this site so that it actually gets updated more than...
