I just came across this brilliant video about getting people to learn how to code. It’s amazing. It features a handful of creators in the past century who have created something with code and who have become successful.
The Code.org website is about teaching people to program and to encourage those who may have had a slight interest to have an even bigger interest. It has certainly got me excited. Perhaps, I won’t have to go to university after-all, and I can learn how to program completely free – this I think is the premise behind Code.org.

I’ve applied for jobs on the internet from Taiwan, as I’m looking to go back to the UK. Sites like GumTree, Reed and CV Library are essentially where I’ve submitted most of my job applications. Still, no reply yet and here is why:

Jobs on GumTree.
There are 41,000 people posting ads, who are looking for jobs.
So, if we want to know what’s competitive in today’s industry, well, jobs essentially are what run this service based economy.
According to the latest figures (Dec. 2012) there are 2.5 million unemployed people, which is a decrease considering the UK economy had 2.7 million unemployed at the end of 2011, the year before.
Are there enough jobs to go around?
I’ve read that there are in-fact enough jobs to go around and to totally get rid of unemployment. However, when you look into this more you’ll discover that these jobs are either specialized or they are menial jobs that won’t give a person enough income to survive; that’s why going on benefits are so advantageous and beneficial, as you can receive Housing Benefit, cheaper travel & weekly payments, all without cost; rather, a below average life-style.
I’m trying to avoid the idea of going on benefits as I’d rather work, doing cleaning jobs, or jobs which fit my field of work, which is IT.
The analysis
Looking at this Guardian article, it seems there is also the problem that perhaps skilled jobs aren’t in the area that people are living in. Essentially, people literally do not have the money to move around to be able to apply for vacant jobs in other parts of the country. Plus, other parts of the country also have a deficit in jobs available. It’s like this all over the country, no one area has jobs freely available; otherwise, I guess, people would be moving to other parts of the country and applying for those jobs. I sure would be doing that; however, for me to commit to that idea, well, the salary or hourly rate should be high enough to make doing that beneficial. Otherwise, it would be impossible for me to live and I would have to go without eating if that were to be my only option.
Future prospects
While we can say the prospects of the UK economy are improving, jobs on the other hand aren’t increasing and if they are, they are jobs which require certain sets of skills and experience that can only be acquired by years of education and experience. If even graduates of university are unable to find employment in their fields, considering they don’t have the relevant working experience then how can others survive in such an economy.

I am sure I’ve made similar posts to this post about my future. The uncertainties, the worries and the “What will happen… questions”. But, I’ve decided that I would like to make a return to the UK to study again or to simply go back to work! I can leave Taiwan in March/June/July as that is the period that I can stay in the Taiwan; unless I want to do Taiwanese military service, as I am Taiwanese, as well as being British. I would have done the military service last year (I actually wanted to do it then), but I feel that I’ve wasted a year, so I’m no longer interested in doing it and I really need to get studying/working before I become too old and become useless.

5 days ago I cracked my camera’s screen; I own a Panasonic DMC-FZ28. I screwed up bad as I’m a little low on money and can’t afford a new one, fortunately for me the camera is still operational, well, other than the screen I can still use the viewer to take pictures. I was calm at the time I broke it, but it’s quite annoying having my camera in this state.

My grandmother has never been healthy, especially when it came to her internals. Every 3 days she would have to go to the hospital to get her kidney/blood washed. It was a procedure that seemed to make her tired, weak, and unhappy. She did accept these things as part of life, and how could you not? – As it was something that became her life. 2 days ago she died; initially it was from a stroke after one of the kidney/blood washing, then it turned into something worse. She didn’t recover from her stroke, and 3 weeks later she died.

Long distance relationships are where two people who love each other are unfortunately separated by distance. Usually the only form of communication is through the internet, letters or telephone. Perhaps, people see long distance relationships not lasting and to a certain agree I can agree with them. However, in my case I have been dating a Korean girl that I love to bits for over 11 months now. I met her in Taiwan while studying Chinese and we had a spark and both fell in-love with each other.
[space size=4]
Here are some of the things that long distance relationships involve:
- You don’t see your girlfriend on an everyday basis. Sometimes your lover doesn’t have time to speak to you on certain days, it is painful when your girlfriend is depressed and only your words can be used to cheer her up, and not a nice big cuddle.
- An uncertain future. Seeing as I’m British & Taiwanese and my girlfriend is South Korean, it’s pretty difficult to decide where we are going in our futures. I want to do everything that allows me to become closer to my girlfriend, however of course that isn’t always going to go as planned. It also takes time for plans to take any effect.
- I’ll be heading back to England next year and the time-zone difference will be dramatically different, so I’ll be even further away and I don’t know whether I’ll be able to keep in-touch with her on a continual basis.
- Always be HAPPY and positive, as I cannot stress this enough. If YOU aren’t happy or positive, I don’t see the relationship lasting or being worth it. If it involves going the extra mile to be happy, take it; you only live life once, as there is no reset.
I miss my girlfriend to bits even though I just came back from seeing her 16 hours ago. I hate not being next to her, I hate not being able to hold her hand, I hate not being able to speak to her on the whim, I hate that I cannot squeeze and hug her tightly. Those are things that I hate not being able to do. So, if you are involved in a long distance relationship, what are the things you hate not being able to do?
